Day Two: Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico
Hello from Albuquerque, the needlessly hard-to-spell city of New Mexico. Yesterday’s drive was a lot more fun since the scenery seemed to change hourly. Google Latitude seemed to crap out west of Amarillo, so there’s a big gap from my clever little map. Go figure. We found this great brewery/bar that seemed to be the only thing open on Christmas night. The bartender, Jennifer, was...

From the team who brought us Whispering Danny, another great film featuring an interesting local. I hope they don’t mind me ganking their description: For the past 46 years Mike Babick, or “Grandpa Mike” as he likes to be called, has turned his house on Falmouth Street in Prairie Village, Kansas into an animated Christmas display. Each year some 250,000 visitors trek across...

Twenty Ten
The ends of years make me overly introspective. It’s a logical time to take account of your accomplishments (and complete failures). That said, I’m not really sure how to characterize this year. It wasn’t remarkable, it wasn’t a disaster. Let’s call this one a “break even” year. I started out 2010 by proclaiming that I wanted to make awesome things....

Opinions are like A$$holes...
… there are millions of them posted on the internet. … they’re typically inherited from your parents. … it’s important to keep them flexible. … you could easily ruin Thanksgiving dinner with them. … nothing good comes out of them. … Fox News has a lot of them, and they’re all terrifying.

A Homeless CMO's 2011 Strategy
Thank you all for joining me under the bridge this morning. I wanted to touch base and give you all a quick heads-up on initiatives and strategy that will be driving our 2011 begging campaign. This really goes without saying, but this year has been a rough one. Cheeseburger Jerry, I see you nodding your head back there. I think we were all caught off guard when Jerry’s shopping cart was...

Things We Tell Ourselves To Make Ourselves Feel...
It’s just normal holiday weight gain. Insurance will cover it. She’s probably just pretending to call the police. That block of cheese was probably only, like 200 calories. Green pee was probably on the “known side effects” list. Everyone uses their 401k to support their meth habit.

Missouri Vehicle Inspection
Has it been two years already? I took in my car for its semi-annual inspection. According to the state of Missouri, my car is still legally roadworthy. This was a big relief because the poor car has problems. The headlights turn off if the vent fan is turned on. This causes problems, mostly when it is dark outside. The front corner is a bit crunched up and streaked with taxicab-yellow paint....

The ad agency holiday card is one of those obligatory creative exercises. It’s like calling your mom on her birthday. If you don’t do it, then it’s assumed that something is horribly wrong. (And oh lord are you going to hear about it tomorrow.) Ostensibly, this ‘card’ is an opportunity to show off your agency’s creative talent under the guise of wishing clients...
